Ottawa's newest professional touring theatre company, Bear & Co., brings As You Like It to parks throughout Ottawa and beyond July 3rd through August 5th. Shows start at 7 pm. Patrons are advised to bring a blanket or lawn chairs, refreshments and bug spray. A hat will be passed after each show, for a suggested contribution of $10 per person.

As You Like It, directed by Will Somers, with musical direction by Rachel Eugster, is one of William Shakespeare's most enduring pastoral comedies. The timeless tale which blends romance and comedy, and is woven throughout with issues and themes that are as relevant today as ever.

Traditionally, banished from her uncle's court, Rosalind seeks safety, and her love, in the Forest of Arden. Somers' exciting and inventive new staging transports the classic tale to 1950's Greenwich Village, offering contemporary audiences a way to understand the themese of class warfare, right to power, and abuse of power in the original. Here, the workers' movement battles McCarthyism, and folksters mingle with beatniks.
