Glebe Garage Update

City of Ottawa

Preliminary works are now underway on the Glebe Garage construction project. Over the course of the next few weeks, you will notice construction activity beginning at 170 Second Avenue. Laurin Construction was awarded the contract to build the Glebe Garage at 170 Second Avenue, and construction activities began on Monday, January 19.

Pre-construction activity
The construction company is sending around a consultant to residences, buildings and structures within a 30 m radius to perform pre-construction inspections.
Construction update
To date, a new electrical service has been installed by Ottawa Hydro to accommodate the new structure.

The construction project officially began on January 19 with the installation of hoarding and a site trailer. The existing pay-and-display machine was removed and the parking lot closed to the general public. A small section of the lot will remain open to monthly pass holders for approximately one month.

Approximately one week after construction starts, the process of excavation and shoring (driving metal plates into the ground to prepare for the foundation construction) will begin. At that time, please expect to experience some noise disruptions and additional debris around the construction site. This is normal for this type of construction activity. Work crews will do everything they can to minimize disruptions. This process will be completed in early March.

Parking availability
During the construction process, alternative parking can be found at Fifth Avenue Court, Lansdowne Park and various on-street locations throughout the Glebe.
Regular updates
The City of Ottawa is committed to keeping you informed with up-to-date construction progress and timelines. Construction activity will be updated every one to two weeks (depending on the level of construction activity) until the expected project completion date of October 30, 2015.
