Hospital Link – Design and Construction

The City of Ottawa began construction of the western portion of Hospital Link in 2014. The two-lane road will connect Riverside Drive and the Transitway to the Hospital Ring Road, and will improve transit service to the Ottawa Health Sciences Complex (OHSC), which includes the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO), The Ottawa Hospital (TOH) and other institutions.

The link, paid for by development charge fees, will also accommodate projected traffic increases related to ongoing hospital development, including the pending redevelopment of the National Defence Medical Centre (more hospital services and 700 new homes).

In addition to the new road, transit lanes and multi-use pathways, the three-year project involves relocating hydro towers, a temporary rail diversion, construction of overpasses at Riverside and the Transitway, realignment of Riverside and new drainage and stormwater infrastructure.
